The Misano World Circuit dedicated to the driver "Marco Simoncelli" has hosted on July 15-16 the fourth round of the Alfa Revival Cup 2017. Twenty-eight Alfa Romeo cars built from 1947 till 1981 reached the circuit near Rimini on Friday morning to take part at the three free practice sessions available to the drivers. Two cars were unfortunately forced to early retirement, due to engine problems not easy to solve quickly; the GTAM of the German Ficht, who after a year of stop from the Alfa Revival Cup was ready to rejoin the series with a new car, and the GTV 2000 Group 5 of the young drivers De Beaumont-Guerriero. On Saturday morning, at 9.00 am, an intense qualifying session started and saw the supremacy of the duo Santoro-Crescenti with the GTAM managed by the Scuderia AB Motorsport - Team Carrera, with a Series record time of 1'58''232. With more than one second of gap Arnaldi that seemed not having the right feeling with his GTAM Group 5. The two GTAM of the Team OKP Racing Club - Alfa Delta, with the Austrian Grohmann and the German Weinzierl, got the second row in the starting grid. Fifth time for Mazzuoli-Bigliazzi from Siena with the Alfetta GTV6 ahead of the Giulia Sprint GTA of Pantaleo-Serio. Seventh row for the first GT Veloce 2000 of Mercatali of the Scuderia Biondetti. Just behind him Oliva-Bensi of Team Superchallenge. Only six cents between the two Giulietta Spider Veloce of Lonardi-Cortellazzi and Liberatore-Gerli from the end of the starting grid of the race scheduled for the 4.20 pm of Saturday afternoon.
In perfect time the twenty-six Alfa Revival Cup cars crossed the pit lane of the circuit to join the track ready for the spectacular rolling start. After one formation lap the most fought race of the season started. Great start for Arnaldi who gained immediately the first position. The driver from Savona kept the lead for all the race. Santoro lost important positions and at the first turn was in seventh position. Pantaleo took advantage of his mistake and reached the second place. Lots of overtaking between Grohmann, Mazzuoli, Körber and Weinzierl. The last at the ninth laps was forced to leave the race due to the sudden break of the differential. Even in the back the overtakes were numerous. After twenty minutes the pit window was opened and the drivers were required to return to the pit lane for the drivers change or for the sixty-seconds mandatory stop. At the closing of the pit window the classification was rewritten again. Santoro left the wheel to his co-driver Crescenti who regained positions and reached Arnaldi's tail. The duo finished the race in the second overall position, first in the GTAM class. Grohmann was able to defend his third place as long as, just one lap before the checkered flag, he suffered damage to the GTAM's engine and was forced to stop finishing in the fifth position, third in his class. The Sicilians Pantaleo-Serio got with surprise the third step of the overall podium, fourth place went to Körber, also second in the GTAM class. For the FIA Period F first place for Guerra-Mischis with the Giulia GTA 1600, once again protagonists of numerous overtakings. Second place to the twenty years old Fabian Körber, who could conclude with great satisfaction his first race with the Giulia Ti Super. Third place to the German lady driver Evelin Ludwig, also winner of the voucher offered by OKP Parts & Engineering for Italian Cars, sponsor of the Series. Among the GT Veloce 2000 Tursimo di Serie, great start for Oliva, who at the third lap was able to overtake Mercatali. During the race his co-driver Bensi was able to keep the advantage on the Tuscan so they got the first place in the class that was also a seasonal revenge. Second place to Mercatali and third Gimignani. Fourth place, with less than half second of gap, for Galli-Magonio of the Motorsport Drive Team. In the back, the most historic cars entered were protagonists of a decisive class struggle decided, as at the Monza round, at the very last lap. This was the time of Lonardi-Cortellazzi that had the best on the Giulietta Spider Veloce of Liberatore-Gerli, with only three tenths of seconds advantage, enough to score very important points for the seasonal overall ranking of the Alfa Revival Cup.
The ranking sees at the top the duo Guerra-Mischis with 57 points, followed by Lonardi-Cortellazzi with 53. Third place for Camilli of Team Tessaro who, thanks to the first place in class gained, reaches 47 points. Only one point of difference for Gimignani. Fifth place for Santoro-Crescenti with 43 points. Now is time for the summer break for the drivers of the series dedicated to all Alfa Romeo built from 1947 to 1981. They will come back on the famous Austrian Formula One track next September 2-3. The Red Bull Ring will be an important round, maybe decisive for the drivers because of the double score assigned to the winners that might help to consolidate the overall rankings. All drivers are therefore invited to take part at the race weekend.
