The Mugello Circuit has hosted on April 13-14 the first round of the eight season of the Alfa Revival Cup. To be able to start race dedicated to the Alfa Romeo cars built from 1947 till 1981, thirty-eight cars joined the circuit and took part to the four free practice sessions scheduled. The demanding Tuscan circuit immediately tested the mechanical preparation of the cars. Marco Guerra, with his GTAM managed by the Team Carrera, suffered an engine failure that immediately forced him to the pit garage. Other competitors were in difficulty but the professionalism of the mechanics and the availability of the other teams towards their friends-opponents, allowed all the others cars to take part to the qualifying session scheduled in the early afternoon of Saturday. Grohmann, with his red GTAM, got the Pole Position with about one second of gap on the GTAM Group 5 of Arnaldi. Second row for Bertinelli and Körber. An excellent fifth place on the grid went to the new Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 Group 4 of the driver-mechanic Restelli, racing with his friend Zamuner. Beside them Scalini-Simoncini were ready to start the race. Fourth row for the Crescenti brothers and for the GT Veloce 2000 Group 5 of Luccioni. Excellent ninth overall time for the GTA Junior of Ondrak, the first 1300 cylinder capacity engine to qualify. From the thirteenth position, the Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 of Petrone-Barri was the first in the FIA period F. Among the most historic cars a good result for the Giulietta Spider Veloce of the Raimondi father-son, who however suffered problems to the failing brake master cylinder, that unfortunately would not allowed him to take part to the race. Among the GT Veloce 2000 Turismo di Serie were the father-son Mercatali to get the best placement. Unlucky session for Verga who, due to the cooling of the tires during the Safety Car, lost control of his GT Veloce 2000 and went violently off the track. The driver from Palermo was unhurt but forced to abandon the chance to gain the podium, despite his second best time in the class. Sunday morning, just before nine o'clock the time scheduled for the start of the race, the track was very wet, the temperature was almost wintry and a very cloudy sky confused drivers' souls with black shadows and bright lights. The choice of the tires to use for the rain challenged the drivers of the more modern cars, which, according to technical regulations, are allowed to use both slick tires and rain tires. The race was declared wet by the Race Director and it started under the Safety Car procedure. The young driver Guerra, unable to qualify, started from the last position on the staring gird, but the hope of having solved the engine problem suffered the day before left him stopped already during the formation lap. Another sudden withdrawal for Barri, who suffered gearbox problems that imposed him to postpone the debut of the new car at the next race of the season. After the first lap, the Safety Car left the race began. Lots of overtaking in the head between the GTAMs of Bertinelli, Grohmann, Körber, the Arnaldi's Group 5 and the Alfetta GT6 of Mazzuoli-Bigliazzi. The race was very tight even in the most backward positions. It was the time of the opening of the drivers change window or mandatory pit stop for the solo drivers. Due to a car out of track in a dangerous position, the Race Direction decided for a second Safety Car that eliminated the gaps between the cars and gave advantage to those who could reached the pit lane for the sixty seconds mandatory stop. The situation on track seemed to be solved and the Safety Car left space to the green flag. However, the weather situation was getting worse until the arrival of another heady shower. The Brazilian Della Noce spun his Giulia Sprint GTA Gr. 4 on the straight probably due to the aquaplaning. This accident evinced the difficulty of most of the cars to stay safely on track and for the third time the Safety Car went on track. Soon after the Race Director decided to display the Red Flag and stopped the race about nine minutes before the official end of the sixty minute. The classification was so frozen at the lap before the red flag and showed, on the overall podium as well as in the GTAMs class, the Austrian Grohmann, followed by Bertinelli and the German Körber. Fourth overall placement for Scalini-Simoncini. Fifth position for Mazzuoli-Bigliazzi. Behind them the GTAM of Oliva-Magonio, Ondrak with the GTA 1300 Junior, and the father-son Winkler. Despite the spun Serio-Della Noce got a good ninth place overall, first in their class ahead of Restelli-Zamuner. For the FIA period F, the first car classified was the Giulia Sprint GTA of Guerra-Mischis, which arrived sixteenth overall leaving the second place of class to Fabian Körber on his Giulia Ti Super and the third to the German Ludwig. Among the GT Veloce 2000 Turismo di Serie, the Mercatali of the Scuderia Biondetti had the best performance in the home circuit. The other steps of the podium went to the two new duo Silvestrini-Tronconi and Gerli-Riccardi. Among the Giulietta Ti of the FIA period E, the first place went to the Morteo brothers, and then Bambi and Milla-Chersevani who saw their race finished at the eleventh lap for a mistake that brought them to the gravel. The overall classification of the Alfa Revival Cup 2019, drafted by assigning scores and historicity coefficients based on the class of each car, shows at the top with 18 points the Morteo brothers drivers of the 1960 Giulietta Ti. Second step, with only one point gap, Guerra-Mischis with the Giulia Sprint GTA 1600. At the third place Bambi, with 16 points, with a Giulietta Ti too. Nevertheless, the season is only at the start and the participation to each round is essential to get important points to achieve the Alfa Revival Cup 2019 Trophy and win an organic Parmigiano Reggiano wheel produced by Bio Hombre, sponsors of the series. A first race undoubtedly difficult both for the cars and for the drivers anticipates an increasingly competitive and entertaining season. All the drivers cannot miss the second, of six planned appointments, which will take place next May 25th at the "Enzo e Dino Ferrari" in Imola.
